Jerry Franklin, from the Good Dog Show podcast presents a guide on the free and open source audio editor Audacity. In this 2006 Podcast and Portable Media session, learn all you need to know in order to engineer your podcast in less time and get all the basic how-to knowledge to produce higher quality podcasts.

Franklin, also known as the Audacity Guy, demonstrates the basic interface of Audacity and how to get yourself up and running quickly. By learning a few screen navigation shortcuts and how to handle a number of common audio problems you should be able to produce quality content without staying up all night.

Besides making post-production easy, Franklin gives a few pointers on how to give your podcast a more professional sound in addition to a number of easy-to-follow procedures for more complex functions. Though aimed at the beginner and intermediate Audacity user, anyone who wants to save time by using Audacity will find the tips and tricks useful.

Jerry Franklin possesses more than two decades of professional experience across all forms of media. He is the audio engineer for The Good Dog Show, a podcast on dog training, which he also co-hosts and co-produces with his wife Kate Knight, a certified dog trainer. For the last 12 years Franklin has written and produced Web content, marketing collateral, and software documentation for numerous technology startups as well as for some of the world's largest technology companies, including Microsoft, PeopleSoft, and Intel.

Franklin began his media career as a newswriter and segment producer for CBS, NBC, and CNN. He then became a writer and producer of corporate videos, and a freelance technology journalist. In 1994 he transitioned into new media, editing the world's first CD-ROM-based newsmagazine.
