Podcast and New Media Expo 2007: Copyright and other intellectual property issues affecting podcasters and other new media have received considerable press attention since the advent of those media, but other areas of the law, which can have a significant effect on any new media outlet, have frequently been overlooked. Legal perils such as defamation, invasion of privacy, and false advertising can leave audio and video podcasters, digital media creators, and content developers exposed to liability if the complex parameters of those areas of the law are not understood. Every business and individual engaged in new media production needs to be aware of the inherent risk exposures and learn how to prepare for potential legal actions based upon their content. Conference attendees to this session will learn how to recognize potential “red flags” in the content they intend to publish, develop and implement a legal compliance strategy, stay within the line of copyright and IP law, and prepare for and work to avoid potential lawsuits. Instructors: Colette Vogele of Vogele & Associates, Denise Howell of BagandBaggage.com, Jeff Heninger of Reed Smith, and Jeffrey Hermes of Brown Rudnick

Podcast and New Media Expo 2007: Video podcasting is just beginning but it has the potential to compete with and eventually outshine broadcast TV. Be a part of this adventure. Join us as we discuss how to improve your podcast by marrying professional video production values with targeted niche content. This is not a session about what microphone or camera to buy. Instead we’ll discuss how to write, shoot, edit, and shape your video into a tight professional story that looks and sounds as good as anything on TV. Then we’ll go further and discuss how to use the unique strengths of podcasting like portability, niche-casting, and community building, to go way beyond anything TV can do. Our show Let’s Knit2gether - the first video podcast about knitting, gets rave reviews from broadcasters and knitters alike. We’ll show you what we’re doing, what’s worked, the mistakes we’ve made, and all the challenges along the way. If you want to take your video podcast to the next level, then this session is for you. Instructors: CAT Susch and Eric Susch from LetsKnit2gether.com.
