For portable recording we recommend the Electrovoice RE-50b mic and the Marantz PMD-660 Solid State recorder. This dynamic mic is specifically designed for hand held style interviewing with internal shock management and plosive control. It is a favorite among professional journalists.

The PMD-660 supports recording to standard compact flash media with dual XLR mic inputs and phantom power if necessary. Recording specs: uncompressed 16bit PCM WAV files at 44.1kHz or 48kHz, mono MP3 at 64kbps and stereo MP3 at 128 kbps.

Easy file transfer is possible via USB I/O, and the recorder can operate on 4 AA batteries.
