PNME 2007: Educational Podcasts:

And so, I wrestled with, “Well, what do I have to offer. What could I podcast about?” And the thing that came to mind was, “Well, probably something about psychology since I have been working in that field for so long and the kind of psychology that I affiliated with is really very broad. It’s know as Humanistic Psychology, Transpersonal Psychology and as a result of having worked in that field for so many years, I’ve got context all over the place.

So I thought, “I bet I could do interviews, have some kind of an interview show where I would interview a broad spectrum of professionals and to help people know that the field of psychology of personal growth and so on is much broader than the image that they might have and as I thought about embarking on this particular voyage, this journey.” I didn’t know. You know, I had some doubts and some questions as to whether or not how effective it was going to be. Would anybody listen? Who would my audience be? The audience that imagined was intellectually curious adults, students, probably mostly college students, certainly psychology majors. I had hoped that maybe graduate students in psychology even might be interested in such a thing and perhaps even my peers, maybe other psychologists or middle-health professionals.

But I was also a little nervous about that because I was fearful of the judgment of my colleagues. Gee, they might think it was really amateurish or simplistic or something but this was kind of the original inspiration once I had this kind of gleam of an idea, glimmer of an idea. It’s now two years later. The podcast – actually, I have three podcasts now that I’m associated with. Shrink Wrap Radio is the one that I’ve been leading up to here which now has – I’ve been doing for over two years and over 100 episodes and that gleam in my eye actually materialized into an audience that really was just the way that I imagined it, a very broad audience that goes all the way from the general public intellectually curious to colleagues, to professors and middle-health professionals so it’s been a very rewarding journey.
