PNME 2007: Educational Podcasts:

David Van Nuys: Yes, okay I’ll be happy to do that. I actually had a different PowerPoint with about 39 slides in it and it included stuff like that and then I – like the night before I came down here, I created this one instead. I thought the other one is too long, too detailed. Yes, I am – I work on a Mac, so I’m using an iMac as my computer, the newest iMac with the 24-inch iMac which I love. I use an Electrovoice RE20 mic. I’ve gone through three or four mics. That one was described as having that NPR sound, so I thought, yes that’s what I want, that NPR sound. So, I got one of those mics. I use Garage Band although I’m exploring other software as well, I’m really excited by software that Rogue Amoeba is showing downstairs, the latest version of wiretap which does some stuff that I think might help with the editing, so I’ll probably use that in conjunction with Garage Band.

As I say, Skype, I use the approach the (Approach the Doug K 00:56:15) outline and that Rob Walsh also has on his website podcast 411, where I use a mixer, the computer goes into and I can’t describe all the hook-ups but I use an Alesis 8 USB MultiMix Mixer and so Skype is going in there, the microphone is going into an Edirol UA-25 Interface which goes into the mixer. So, the computer and the mic are going into this mixer. It’s getting mixed and it’s getting recorded down into the Edirol R09, little portable recorder which I use for my field recording.

When I’m doing the field recording, I either use, if I want to use a stick, a mic in the person’s face format, I’m also using an electrovoice mic, that’s the RE50. I also have a set of lapel mics from what’s it called, Giant Squid I think, very reasonably-priced, high quality, two lapel mics on a single jack that goes right into the recorder. Does that do it?

Male: Thank you.

David Van Nuys: Okay. I am so happy, I remembered it all. Any other questions or comments? Thank you very much. Thank you.
