PNME 2007: Educational Podcasts:
And then as I sort of thinking about this presentation and it kind of push myself. I realized, it’s a 12-way win. It’s a win-win-win, win-win-win, win-win-win and so on. So let’s take a look at the ways. First of all, is content. If you get free content when you’re doing the interview, you know, okay I want to have a podcast show. What am I going to talk about? Well, I don’t feel all that smart even after 35 years of being a professor, I have to tell you, I don’t feel that smart and I think I’ve forgotten more than I remember.
So, to me it would feel like a really big burden to be on there week after week or day after day as the soul deliver of content or knowledge. Whoa, I don’t want that. So the interview format really works because you can reach out and pull in content from all over the place and I don’t have to be that smart. So that’s a win.
The next win is, of course it gratifies my ego. Okay, I get to have a show, I have listeners, I’m out in the world, I get to be here and speak to you people, so that’s a win. But it also gratifies the guest ego needs because they’re out there. They’re trying to get exposure and they want to be a star, okay. So I’m kind of given them a gift. When I contact them and say, “Hey, I would like you to be a guest on my show. Would you consider that?” And they’re kind of strokes, there you go. So that’s a win.
But they also have needs for PR. Quite a few of the people that I interviewed are authors and so they’re out there and they’re hawking their book or something else and, you know, public relations that were all trying to get PR for something and it’s free PR for them. So that is a real win for them. It’s a win for the audience because the audience is looking for information within a particular domain and so they find the podcast that fits that domain and if it clicks for them, they’re thrilled and they’ve become totally devoted. And so it’s a big win for them.
