I'm not sure why the company decided to go with USB. In terms of quality, consider the USB DigiDesign M Boxes. I have not heard many complaints in terms of the quality these provide, and most of them share the same protocol.

Why USB? I am new to the process, but everyone has been telling me to purchase firewire devices over USB- including an Apple tech. In this last case the tech said that "USB is just a bad protocol..."

Is there any truth to this, and if so, why not a USB option on the mini-me?

As always, thanks for the useful site.
