audioFile …
I looked around for a sleek, yet simple audio file player that I can use to audition clips, spots, beds, podcasts, etc., mostly for production purposes. I couldn’t find anything that interested me. I found some basic code for media file playback, designed the UI and built the application below. I call it audioFile. It’s nothing fancy. In fact there is no drag and drop support, just traditional file import, no volume, no pause. However it does exactly what I want it to do with very little fuss. To be honest, I am striving to integrate the concepts and funtionality of upTimer and audioFile into a much more robust application. It’s an arduous task to say the least … to be continued …

Why couldn’t you just associate mp3’s with the QuickTime player? I’ve done this and now I can preview any mp3 in QT player. With scrolling (i.e., fast forward), if necessary. Plus, I can preview any audio format, and even video. What’s the point to write new application with less features?…
This application plays all audio file formats, not just mp3’s.
As far as ‘what’s the point …’ - have you considered maybe I am NOT a developer, and I am teaching myself how to develop, taking things one step at a time, using basic design and implementation concepts at first?

I use QuickPlayCM. It plays any QuickTime-supported file when you Control-click the file.
What I’d really like is a drag-and-drop player that allows you to create aliases to the files you like. That would make auditioning and selecting files much quicker. AudioFinder does that, but also a whole lot more, so it costs $70.
David,
I am working on drag and drop support. I’ll keep you posted. Once I get it working, I’ll post for download.

I assume that the code you have used is licensed under GPL or similar. I’d love to get the source code to be able to add some features I need for myself. Could you do that?
Actually, It’s sort of a personal project and I am not prepared to relaese the code. However, I am looking to team up with a developer for possible business endeavors. Are you interested? If so let me know via email.
