Focusrite has just announced the new Saffire LE firewire interface. The device offers 24bit, 96kHz audio, 6 inputs, 2 Focusrite mic preamps and 8 outputs. The interface will allow you to set up separate headphone/monitor mixes or 5.1 surround monitoring. A suite of software plugins are bundled with the interface, specifically compression, reverb, and equalization. The device is also AC3 and DTS compatible. Available at the end of May for $450 US.

Just curious because most of this is new to me, why would I want the new LE for $450 when the original Saffire is selling for $399 and has onboard DSP? Just the extra inputs? Monitoring in 5.1? Just wondering since I was about to buy a Saffire.
Thanks!
This piece has onboard DSP as well. Otherwise,I think you are right on track in reference to the extra $$.

Still wondering?
