Heil Proline Mics at The Expo

A month before the Podcast and Portable Media Expo, Todd Cochrane from Geek News Central contacted me in reference to a post here on the site. He was wondering if I thought the Heil PR-40 would be a suitable merit award for Adam Curry and Leo Laporte. I had been in contact with Bob Heil, who graciously sent me the mic for evaluation. I knew this mic would be a great choice for the awards.

During my session at The Podcast Academy on Thursday, the PR-40 was my ‘Hot-Ticket’ recommendation to those who attended. Since then, Leo mentioned to me he absolutely loves the mic, and I just heard Adam’s latest cast. He was on the PR-40 and sounded great.

Anyone considering a pro-level dynamic broadcast mic should seriously consider the Heil PR-40. Just an amazing deal with beautiful signature sound.

I really like its sound compared to the RE20 - warmer, more natural sound. Would a woman’s voice range benefit? (no, I’m not asking for myself!)….

    D,

I would think so. I think ‘warm’ is an accurate description, which seems to be the general concensous.

    Paul,

I heard Leo on TWiT with it. I’m hooked. Where’s the best place to buy it? I am happy with my RODE but that Heil PR-40 sounds too good not to test.

    Thanks!

    Mike,

Call and speak to Bob. Mention to him we spoke.

I was wondering if the Heil 40 was a good choice for a Marantz 660 used in a studio setting.

    Hi Dennis,

Why dont we take this over to the forum. I think it will create an interesting thread. I’ll respond as soon as you post.
