<description>A few things to watch out for:

Exactly how good are the preamps? The Marantz portables are lousy. Are these in the same ballpark?

Batteries -- I would have preferred the Sound Devices ploy, using readily available camcorder batteries Carrying boxes of AA cells is not my idea of nirvana.

I depend on Mid-Side micing. Since it isn't mentioned in the Tascam promotional materials, I assume this unit can't provide Mid-Side monitoring. My now retired HHB Portadat did provide this facility.

<description>The only spec I didn't like too much was "Runs on (8) readily available AA batteries" It beats a custom battery but EIGHT?

Regards,

		<description>Michael,

This piece looks fantastic, and I believe it is yet to be released. I am going to ask Tascam to send me one for testing. We'll see how it goes.

In reference to the Marantz units, I'll post more info at the forum.

<description>I was wondering how this compared to the Marantz PDM 660 and/or PDM 670 portable recorders. I tried out the M-Audio Microtrack and decided it's not a good fit for what I'm looking for.

Curious as to whether you have any insights on how this unit compares - or where you would spend your money.

Thanks!!
