keywords: edirol UA-1EX usb, “24-bit bug”, “only 16 bits possible”, “16 bits per sample”, problem, not working with 24 bits

Has anyone had any trouble getting true 24-bit samples out of this edirol device? Mine, no mater what I do, always produces only 16 bits (this is true using Audition, Audacity, and Samplitude 2496). I.e., even if I set the interal mode to 24 or 32 bits, I can *never* get a sample out of the thing larger than 32768!!

I have more than 100 old MiniDiscs digitally recorded and a Sony MDS-S39 with Digital Output for Tosslink Cable. Till today, i am not been able to upload all those files into my p/c,… Do you think that this Edirol UA-1EX USB Interface will be helpfull? can i tranfer or record digitally into my p/c all the audio files in my MiniDiscks????

Would someone please recommend a good plugin powered mic for use with this USB interface?

I use the Griffin iMic with my Tapco 6 with no noise problems (now).

The “crackles” with the iMic USB are due to the sample rate being set wrong on the Mac. A bug in Audacity chnages the rate on the iMic input port to 41000Hz when it should be 480000Hz-2ch.

Run the Audio-MIDI tool in Applcations->Utiities and set the rate correctly for the iMic USB device as above and the crackles will be gone (until the next time Audacity screws it up).

I got one of these for the Mac Mini (which is kind of short on the audio side). It’s incredible! None of the crappy audio crackles I was getting with the Griffin iMic and no interference from other devices. Sound quality is awesome. Very highly recommended!

Do I still need to do that if I’m taking the output from the mixer into the RCA jacks? I’ve got my levels cranked way up high, but the input into the laptop is still peaking at less than -12.

Maybe you need to use a powered mic? That’s what the description seems to say.

I have one of the current units. For some reason, I cannot get the audio levels loud enough going into my laptop. The drivers install automatically, but I can’t adjust the input levels as I can with any other type of input (line, mic) into the PC.

Anyone else experienced this?
