I just ordered a 1604 With firewire out for my studio i am currently building. I hope i've chosen the right one for my use. I don't know all the hook-ups yet like what connection to order with a new computer i will be purchasing. Also, I haven't gotten in to what i need in a computer yet. It will be dedicated to my studio for the sole purpose of recording. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Front End Audio is now stocking and shipping modified Mackie Onyx series mixers which allow the EQ to be switched into the recording path (DB25 / Firewire outs) using the standard EQ select switch. Modifications are also available for current Onyx owners as well, visit www.frontendaudio.com for more information!

Alan,

I agree with you in reference to the board. However, I still can't come to terms with the fact the firewire ouput is pre-eq/pre-insert. In my opinion this doesn't make sense ... the user should have both options available.

I am not very familiar with the specifics of multi tracking into Adobe Audition, but I was able to take all 18 individual tracks from my Onyx 1640 directly in Vegas 5.0 without any issues. Overall I love the board, the firewire option takes small format analog consoles to a whole new fun level.

Yes Frank. I agree. I have the 1620. Fantastic piece of gear. There are a few issues with the firewire interface which can be improved or 'updated' and such in my opinion. Currently I output to a firewire recording interface to compensate for the various limitations.

Oh, do I wish I purchased this mixer before spending much more on a Yamaha 01X. I was not happy until I bit the bullet and shelled out for the Mackie. What a fine piece of equipment it is! I'm a customer for life. Note the firewire port brings in the Main Out only. Using Adobe Audition I get a left and right channel but cannot import separate tracks on the mixer into separate tracks in the software... until an upgrade perhaps?
