Portable Recording

I posted a link over at the main site for a cool portable recorder that is hard to come by based on demand. I checked around and most places will not have it available for a least another month. The Edirol R-1 records in MP3 and WAV formats, with up to 2 gig capacity on compact flash memory. There are some audio files available at Edirol to check quality. The recordings sound amazing. It sells for around $450 and is worth looking into

I enthusiastically awaited the R-1 nd put it to work right away.
After a few recordings I relegated it to backup recording, in case my laptop crashes. Mini input only, add an external mic and I was never happy. I’ve told my friends it’s a toy. One annoyance, it doesn’t time stamp the files so after you use the R-1 on a couple of interviews you can’t tell what’s on the CF card; it creates sequential filenames, but with out a date and time stamp, I’m lost. Very cute, I’m sure they’ll sell plenty. I add it to the long list of equipment I’ve purchased that I’ve abandoned in my quest for a high quality podcast studio.
